Since the start of the semester, POSTECH’s campus dining services have changed to focus on expanding menu choices and adding convenient meal options. Oasis cafeteria has diversified its à la carte menu, while Haedong-Aurum Hall has begun offering sandwiches and salads. Meanwhile, e-Sports COLOSSEUM has suspended lunch service following the reassignment of kitchen staff. Students welcomed the menu diversification of Oasis, although the concentration of diners at Oasis early in the semester also caused long waits and difficulty finding seats. The most notable change is the diversification of à la

POSTECH marks its 40th anniversary this year. The university is carrying out various projects to celebrate the occasion and look back on its history. Rather than making the anniversary a one-time event, POSTECH has found ways to bring it into daily life. One of these projects is a PONIX brand emoji for everyday use on KakaoTalk. “Baby Ponix’s Punny Life” features POSTECH’s official mascot, PONIX. The Mueunjae Student Council proposed the project. The designs include symbols from different departments, reflecting the academic paths of Postechians. For Postechians, there are many important facilities on campus. However, if there is one facility that stands out above all others, it would undoubtedly be the 78 Stairs. The reason for the 78 Stairs’ importance is quite simple: it serves as a bridge between the dormitories and lecture buildings. The importance becomes more prominent during the morning rush, when every second and minute counts. However, if you head toward the 78 Stairs now, you will find this familiar landmark is under repair. For a deeper understanding, the brief history of the 78 Stairs may help explain what is happening. Throughout my first semester at POSTECH, I’ve met people with different backgrounds, interests, and perspectives. Although spending time and sharing experiences with them was exciting and rewarding, it was also quite challenging. It was not because I disliked spending time with others or taking part in new activities. Rather, I often found myself facing small conflicts that arose from differences in our perspective. What seemed obvious to me was not always obvious to others, and what I considered natural could sometimes seem strange from someone else’s viewpoint. At first, I often wondered why

Preparing for the interview to become a reporter for The Postech Times, a thought came to my mind: Why do people read articles anyways? After asking a few acquaintances, I found that quite a lot of people view news stories as just sentences containing some information. That is a reasonable response, I thought, since we usually search for new channels to learn about unfamiliar issues and satisfy our curiosities. However, can articles and stories function as more than just means of delivering information? From my personal experience, articles have been more than just a pile of words, or a medium

The POSTECH rowing team has reached the top of the national stage. This success reflects the team’s consistent training and preparation..The Jang Bogo Flag Rowing Competition is Korea’s most prestigious rowing competition, attracting more than 100 teams of professional athletes and recreational rowers from across the country. For many Postechians, summer break is a chance to step away from the intensity of the semester. For the athletes representing POSTECH in the 2026 KAIST-POSTECH Science War (KPSW) on Sept. 18 and 19, summer can be just as intense as the semester itself. The Postech Times joined the Tachyons—POSTECH’s baseball team and the defending champions—at their summer training camp, which the reporter attended not only as a journalist but as one of the players competing for a place on the roster. The Tachyons’ day begins before sunrise. By 5 A.M., players are already at the sports field, some still groggy

On July 1, POSTECH launched its first dedicated brand merchandise shop, marking a strategic pivot in campus retail following the closure of the Jigok Hall souvenir and stationery store. Managed by POSTECH Dining Services, this initiative seeks to bolster the university’s brand equity and cultivate a deeper sense of community pride. The newly established Campus Store currently operates out of the cafes located in the Tae-Joon Park Digital Library and the Student Union Building. The store features a lineup of official merchandise spanning seasonal apparel, everyday stationery, and lifestyle acces

POSTECH is restructuring its Department of Convergence IT Engineering (CiTE), transitioning it into a dedicated Department of Biomedical Engineering. This academic overhaul takes effect in the upcoming fall semester, marking a significant shift in the institution’s offerings. This transition is the latest evolution of the department, formerly known as Creative IT Engineering before its reorganization into CiTE. The restructuring aims to address challenges in administering an interdisciplinary major while providing a clearly defined specialization. As global demand for healthcare technology expa

A recent social media post by the owner of a restaurant near Hyoja Market has sparked discussion about student dining culture around campus. Restaurant owners say groups of students often order only a small amount of food but stay for hours, while large reservations sometimes end with far fewer people showing up. What may seem like a simple issue of etiquette is increasingly revealing deeper differences in how students and business owners view campus dining spaces. The post quickly spread online, and several nearby restaurant owners said they had experienced similar problems. Owners say long st

Many universities, including POSTECH, are now trying to realize social values in their communities, including Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). One of the efforts POSTECH has made to promote DEI values is establishing the Diversity Council. The Diversity Council held its first open event called “Write Night” on May 13, after its establishment in the same year.In the “Write Night” event, participants were able to voice their opinions and thoughts on DEI issues on campus by writing answers to the questions provided in the event. Each answer was kept anonymous in order to provide a comforta

Have you ever noticed that every stranger you pass is living a life as vivid and complex as yours? In English, this realization is called “sonder.” Although each person carries their own world, consisting of a unique set of ideas, perspectives, and beliefs shaped by experiences entirely their own, this is often unconsciously ignored as everyone is so preoccupied with their own lives. Consequently, we often reduce others to one-dimensional figures, making superficial judgements. This tendency extends to how we perceive the issues around us. Although societal problems are multidimensionally tangl

When I sat down to write my first piece as a reporter, I hesitated over every word. The more I thought about it, the more my head ached. Around that time, I spotted a notice from the residential college about a campus volunteer activity: picking up trash, followed by a small picnic under fully bloomed cherry blossoms. Hoping it might help clear my mind, I signed up, never realizing that this lighthearted decision would quietly reshape my mindset as a reporter.Looking for what others walk pastWalking through the campus and along the railway, trash bag and grabber in hand, my scattered thoughts

When I was in high school, I read an article in The Postech Times, titled “Silent Death” (PARK So-mang, Feb. 26, 2025). Since I was struggling with a lot of stress at that time, I started thinking deeply about the issue of suicide among young adults. At that moment, I realized that writing is not merely a way to convey information, but a powerful tool that can awaken people. After that, I found myself asking, “How can we raise our voices to highlight the severity of societal problems?” My answer was to become a reporter for The Postech Times and advocate for the community. I aspired to write m

To mark its 40th anniversary, POSTECH has launched the POSTECH 40th Anniversary Lecture Series, a new program designed to invite world-renowned scholars, Nobel laureates, and visionary leaders to campus. During the Reportage in Shanghai, The Postech Times interviewed two students currently studying in China regarding the academic life of a Chinese student. In Korea, the primary instrument for university admissions is the College Scholastic Ability Test, widely known as Suneung. What characterizes the equivalent entrance exam in China? Upon graduating from secondary education, students who are not specialized in arts or physical education must sit for the National College Entrance Examination, more commonly called the Gaokao. Unlike the Suneung exam, the Gaokao is not a uniform national exam. Th

On Jan. 23, The Postech Times arrived in front of a tiny building in Shanghai, the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea Memorial Hall. Despite the weekday morning, the site was crowded with Koreans of all ages. The first thing we saw after entering was a flickering black-and-white film that screened the history of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea. It was initially established in Shanghai in 1919, and served as the base of the independence movement until it was practically forced to relocate after Japanese surveillance intensified. This escalation followed YUN Bong-

On Jan. 15, The Postech Times interviewed Professor YoungPak LEE of Fudan UniversityPersonal History and IntroductionFor my undergraduate studies, I entered the Department of Nuclear Engineering at Seoul National University. At that time, students in science and engineering tracks were assigned to departments based on their grades. I did not find much interest, and I only felt that I had finally found my aptitude when I began my career in physics at the Agency for Defense Development. Afterwards, I went to the U.S., started studying solid-state physics in depth, and settled into a field called
