When I was in high school, I read an article in The Postech Times, titled “Silent Death” (PARK So-mang, Feb. 26, 2025). Since I was struggling with a lot of stress at that time, I started thinking deeply about the issue of suicide among young adults. At that moment, I realized that writing is not merely a way to convey information, but a powerful tool that can awaken people. After that, I found myself asking, “How can we raise our voices to highlight the severity of societal problems?” My answer was to become a reporter for The Postech Times and advocate for the community. I aspired to write my own articles that leave deep impressions on readers like “Silent Death” did.
Having achieved my first goal: to become a reporter for The Postech Times. The next goal is to fill the pages with my own voice. I think the most important thing for the next step is to have a clear vision, a “transparent lens.” The lens has the power to magnify small things that we easily overlook. However, the dirt on the lens can obscure the true story. And the misuse brings distortion that keeps us from the truth.
To provide a clearer view of our world, I will be the transparent lens that POSTECH members can rely on. I will find out hidden issues of the community, then magnify them with a well-balanced perspective. It would be hard to focus on the clear image, but there are many reliable senior reporters. I pledged to learn from veterans and eventually become a well-sharpened, transparent lens.
In addition, I believe that transparency requires constant self-reflection. I will question my own biases, verify facts with diligence, and strive to present stories from multiple perspectives so that readers can form their own informed opinions. This continuous effort will help me refine my lenses and maintain clarity in my reporting.
I aspire for my articles to be more than just a delivery of facts. I want them to serve as a starting point for new perspectives for others. The resonance I felt while reading the article as a high school student is exactly what I hope to give back to the POSTECH community through my own work. Keeping my lenses polished and capturing the truth without distortion is not only my duty as a reporter for The Postech Times but also my first promise to my readers.
