Pope Francis’ passing has brought great sorrow to the world. Since 2013, he has led the Catholic Church as the 266th pope, touching many lives with his love and humbleness towards the marginalized. During his papacy, the Vatican experienced positive changes in various aspects, including an inclusive message towards the LGBTQ+ community, an expanded role for women in the Church, and proactive responses to climate change issues.

Following the passing of Pope Francis, a conclave was held in the Sistine Chapel to elect a new pope. The term “conclave” comes from Latin, meaning “locked with a key,” and refers to the meeting where the College of Cardinals elects a pope in secrecy, locked away from the outside world.

In this conclave, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost from the United States was elected as the new pope and chose the papal name “Leo XIV.” This name carries the significance of succeeding Pope Leo XIII, who emphasized social justice and labor rights in the late 19th century. He has shown reformist tendencies.

Pope Francis has been a role model for many with his warm heart towards the marginalized and his steadfast belief in justice and peace. His life demonstrated a commitment that transcended religious leadership, listening to the world's suffering, and showing love through action. He took the lead in protecting human dignity beyond the Church's walls and did not hesitate to voice the concerns of the weak and marginalized. This raises an important question we must ask ourselves as we live our lives: How much do we listen to the suffering of others and stand against the injustices of the world?

The movement for change based on his authenticity resonated deeply not only with Catholics around the world but also with non-believers. Furthermore, his lifelong dedication has inspired all those who strive for human dignity and social justice. The values of love, compassion, and courage that Pope Francis demonstrated are not merely a reflection of the past but an arrow in the direction we should aim for today: a life sharing each other's pain, standing against the injustices of the world, and humbly practicing love. I believe this is the greatest lesson he has left us.
