The French poet Rimbaud said that to be a poet, one must become a clairvoyant. One must be capable of perceiving the unknown world beyond what ordinary people can see. At first glance, poets and reporters may appear to stand at opposite ends of the spectrum, but this is not the case. Both are beings who observe the essence of the world and share it with others. I want to be that kind of reporter. In this modern age, where fake news obscures countless truths, I want to be someone who can see the truth.
I have a great passion for learning about international issues. I believe that becoming a reporter will provide me with the opportunity to explore various international news stories. Additionally, being an assistant reporter will allow me to continue writing about diverse topics, which I think will enhance my writing skills. Above all, I believe that becoming a trainee journalist will give me a broader perspective. I think that by encountering many different issues, I will naturally develop a better understanding of the world. I believe that many of the world’s problems stem from people’s indifference. Recently, as I have been exposed to various social issues, I have felt that if people were just a little more interested, the world could change significantly. However, I noticed that perhaps due to POSTECH’s relatively isolated geographical location, POSTECH students seem to lack interest in social issues. In particular, I think that indifference plays a significant role in the climate crisis. Therefore, I want to raise awareness about the seriousness of the climate crisis among others. I look for various articles every morning, and I have noticed that there are very few articles related to climate change. For that reason, I want to have the opportunity to inform POSTECH students about the climate crisis through The Postech Times.
There is a saying that the pen is mightier than the sword. As an assistant reporter, I want to face uncomfortable truths and discover the values we must uphold, and share those with others. I may still be inexperienced and lacking, but I will humbly accept that deficiency and learn. I will look at the world with an honest perspective, free from prejudice and preconceived notions. I will strive to create a world where the pen does not yield to the sword.
