The POSTECH Safety Experience Booth “Pew Pew Safety Arcade” organized by the safety team was held on Nov. 6 and 7 from 11 A.M. to 4 P.M. It took place at the entrance of the Student Union Building, 1st floor lobby, and ATLAS HALL. Safety Arcade aimed to impart safety knowledge entertainingly to all POSTECH members.
Eight participatory experience booths were operated: “Looking for POSTECH Kim Ye-ji,” “POSTECH CPR Hero,” “Fly with Jeju Air,” “Money Safety! Mental Safety!,” “Kickboard Quest: Safe is Best,” “Multi-Crowded Experience,” “The Fire Drill,” and the information booth. Each booth focused on teaching how to deal with various emergencies through simple games or activities.
Postechians could receive stamp sheets from the information booth to play on the other seven booths. Each booth gave a checkup stamp after participating and stamps could be exchanged for gifts such as Ponix stickers and tokens. Over three stamps, prizes were awarded based on the number of booths visited. Tokens were used to play game machines prepared in Atlas Hall, including claw machines and a dart game machine. The information center also provided free coupons for the food truck after uploading the poster notifying the number of general situation rooms on SNS.
The “Looking for POSTECH Kim Ye-ji” booth brought attention to laboratory safety. Participants learned to identify various laboratory safety signs while wearing lab coats and safety glasses. The booth made learning lab safety signs easy and engaging by playing a shooting game. The booth’s humorous name, referring to Olympic shooting star Kim Ye-ji, added fun.
The “POSTECH CPR Hero” booth was a CPR training booth including the CPR score competition. Participants could learn the precise pressure point, degree, and speed of necessary compression. Participants shared their own ways to maintain the correct speed.
Especially, the “Fly with Jeju Air” booth was operated by Jeju Air flight attendants. Reflecting the growing interest in aviation safety while traveling abroad, they introduced practical safety rules. Participants could try appropriate instructions for a seat belt, air mask, and life vest.
Since many students use electrical kickboards on campus, the “Kickboard Quest: Safe is Best” booth delivered a message highly relevant to Postechian’s daily lives. Driving on a kickboard while wearing dizzy effect glass alerted the danger of drunk driving directly.
The “Money Safety! Mental Safety!” booth raised awareness about voice phishing scams. Participants also got self-made POSTECH keyrings with colorful ornaments. The “Multi-Crowded Experience” booth, located outdoors near the entrance of the Student Union Building, provided overly crowded situations. This was an indispensable topic as social interest in accidents occurring in dense environments has increased. The “Fire Drill” booth created an arbitrary environment with obstacles and made participants escape by attaching to the wall.
According to an official, “Basic knowledge and habits for safety are a significant part for all POSTECH members. This arcade concept education will help to raise interest and memory in safety.” Also, there was affirmative feedback from students. So-hyun Kim (Muenjae 24) said not just information delivery, but active participation was the most impressive part of this event. Additionally, she expressed the intention to re-engage in a similar event later.
