Please introduce yourself and the work you do.
My name is Bae-geun Kim, and I work in the General Affairs team. Since joining in 2001, I have been responsible for photographing major events at POSTECH and archiving photographic and video materials to share with university members through the POSTECH Gallery.
Along with taking part in planning and executing major university events, I have also been managing the POSCO International Center since it opened in 2007. After 2022, the Dining Services team was put in charge of operating the POSCO International Center, and I have been managing the center with the staff.
What was the reason and background for establishing the POSCO International Center?
The POSCO International Center opened in 2007 as an education and research facility as part of POSTECH’s initiative to become a global university. The aim was to support international academic conferences as a convention center. The center has diverse meeting rooms equipped with advanced systems and facilities where guests can comfortably manage accommodation and meals.
How is the center operated?
When the POSCO International Center first opened, it was operated by Hilton Gyeongju. The center ran 60 guest rooms, a Western restaurant and banquet hall on the second floor, and a Chinese restaurant on the fifth floor, while the university directly managed the meeting rooms on the first and second floors. However, due to the MERS outbreak in 2012 and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, business profits gradually decreased, and Hilton Gyeongju withdrew. The Dining Services team currently manages the banquet halls, meeting rooms, and guest rooms.
What facilities of the POSCO International Center can undergraduate and graduate students use?
University members can use the POSCO International Center and receive up to 80% discount. The key facilities include a 300-seat international conference hall, a 100-seat meeting room, four medium-sized meeting rooms with 30 seats, and four small meeting rooms with 10 seats each.
Additionally, there are 60 guest rooms, but external guests cannot use them directly. Instead, university members can reserve them when inviting external guests. Underground parking is also accessible for university members and participants at international center events.
Please share some tips on using the international center.
We offer discounts for university members to make the facilities affordable. You can reserve the conference hall and meeting rooms through POVIS > Application > Facility Use > POSCO International Center Convention. I highly recommend the POSCO International Center for hosting academic conferences and meetings.
