From Sept. 20 to 21, the 18th POSTECH-KAIST Science War (PKSW) was held at the KAIST campus. PKSW has been held every September since 2002. The first game took place in KAIST and since then, it was held alternatly at each university. For each school trying to show superiority to the other, the way students call this match differs depending on the school they belong to. In POSTECH, it is called the “Pokajeon” while it goes by the name goes by the “Kapojeon” in KAIST. As PKSW is a change to share experience and a matter of pride, representative teams had been preparing for this event since the last PKSW and had hardcore training during the summer vacation.
There were seven matches in the 18th PKSW. The events were hacking, football, AI, E-sports, baseball, science quiz, and basketball. Over 600 POSTECH supporters visited KAIST to join in and cheer POSTECH’s victory. On the first day, Hacking, AI, E-sports, and Football took place. Hacking started from 9 A.M. to 9 P.M., for 12 hours. By the score of 13 to 17, KAIST got the victory. The next match was the football. The game ended 1 to 1 after regulation times, however, in the shootout, POSTECH prevailed 3 to 1 and seized the victory. For the A.I, POSTECH took victory following last year with a 3 to 2 final score. The E-sports game, League of Legends, was the last match conducted on the first day. The game ended 0 to 2, leaving a defeat to POSTECH. The first day’s matches went unpredictable, and both teams had to exert all their effort in the games that would take the next day.
Baseball, science quiz, and basketball were held on the second day. Although there was a forecast of heavy rain due to the typhoon TAPAH, many of the supporters were gathered to root for the team. In return for their cheer, POSTECH show unrivaled performance in every match of the second day. The Tachyons, POSTECH baseball team, came from behind with a score 9 to 5 and paid the opposing team back for the last loss. As the winning of the science quiz could seal the victory of PKSW, POSTECH solidified its victory with superior strategies and successive answers. POSTECH also had a thrilling come-from-behind victory in the final game, basketball, and was able to crow over the victory in every match of the second day. Overall, POSTECH achieved victory with a score of 5 to 2 and gets the championship back. As a whole, this contributed to a total of 8 victories for POSTECH. Celebration of POSTECH’s victory shacked KAIST.
