The Pohang Institute of Intelligent Robotics (PIRO) revealed its achievements for the last six years to the public at the 6th Open Laboratory, held from Apr. 26 to 27.
Six government-supported research institutes in Robot Technology, including PIRO, have held the Open Laboratory from last year to activate communication, technical sharing among industries and institutes, and finally commercialization robots.
In the event, PIRO introduced not only robotic components and products developed in the last years, but also original ones. Especially robots, such as WINDORO, a window cleaning robot which is near commercialization, U-3, an underwater cleaning robot, and PIRO-M4, a medical herb transportation robot, drew eyes.
Giant companies like POSCO, Samsung Heavy Industries, and LG and nearly 70 venture companies participated and actively communicated for research collaboration, transfering of technology, and commercialization consultation.
The director of PIRO, Professor Dai-Jin Kim (CSE) clarified the significance by saying, “PIRO focuses on the commercialization of robots, fulfilling advances in Robot Technology. The Open Lab gives an opportunity of transferring technology to industries and appealing to local technical skills in robots by introducing the products of PIRO.”
