If you ask a Postechian if they have been to Jukdo Market or Yeongildae Beach, chances are they will say yes. However, if you ask if they have been to Guryongpo or Homigot, the answer is sometimes a “no,” with complaints about expensive taxi fares or the difficulty of public transportation. Fortunately, the new Pohang Tourism City tour offers a convenient workaround: it includes all the well-visited locations while it also unlocks Guryongpo and Homigot, providing an accessible, budget-friendly getaway to the Southeast coast of Pohang.

This May, Pohang City launched a “Pohang-Pohang course” as part of their 2026 Pohang Tourism City Tour program. In particular, the “weekend-circulation course” is confirmed to run every Saturday regardless of the number of participants. For a 10,000 KRW online reservation, participants can hop on and off the tour bus on their selected date. There is no guide, and there are no group activities; participants are free to schedule and spend their day as they wish. Families from all over Korea, even as far as Jeonju, joined the tour.

Participants can start their tour at either Pohang Station or the Intercity Bus Terminal. The bus stops at Guryongpo Japanese House Street, Gwamegi Cultural Center, Homigot Sunrise Square, Jukdo Market, Yeongildae Beach, and Pohang Spacewalk, before returning to Pohang Station and the Intercity Bus Terminal. The bus cycles three times, with the first cycle starting at 7:30 at Pohang Station and 7:45 at Intercity Bus Terminal.

The first stop is Guryongpo. Guryongpo is famous for seafood dishes such as Mori Guksu, a seafood noodle dish in a thick, spicy broth, and steamed snow crab. However, what makes Guryongpo truly special is the blend of history and modernity. The town infrastructure was built by the Japanese during World War II to exploit the fishing economy and hence was abandoned after the war. But instead of facing demolition, those Japanese-style buildings have been transformed into dessert shops, photobooths, cafes, and gift shops. It is both a permanent reminder of history and a tourist attraction.

About a 10-minute walk from the Guryongpo Japanese House Street is the Gwamegi Cultural Center. Gwamegi is a half-dried herring, a local winter specialty of Pohang.

The next stop is Homigot. Homigot is a famous sunrise location, hence the name “Homigot Sunrise Square.” Although it is impossible to see the sunrise at Homigot during the tour schedule, it is a beautiful place nevertheless.

While the bus continues onward to Jukdo Market, Yeongildae Beach, and Pohang Spacewalk, it is impossible to hop off at all six locations as the bus only circles three times. This is the biggest problem; the bus comes only about every three hours, so participants are forced to stay at a location for that duration even if viewing the location only takes a few minutes. Also, the bus does not always come on time; the driver tells participants to return at a certain time, which might be different from the actual time stated on the website. However, it still holds meaning as Postechians can access the coastal treasures of Guryongpo and Homigot through the tour. If you treat the tour as a getaway instead of a “to-do checklist,” you could fully enjoy the coast and return with deep, valuable memories.
