It has been four months since the Beta launch of POSTECH AI. To gauge the platform’s reception among the student population, The Postech Times interviewed Hyunwoo JI, an active and engaged user of POSTECH AI.

JI explains that because most courses are taught in English—a second language for many—he uses the AI to interpret course materials and make specific queries in Korean. He also notes it is especially useful for verifying my practice solutions and identifying errors. This capacity to provide instant, contextual feedback is invaluable to my study routine.

While this method is similar to how one may utilize other large language models (LLM), a key benefit is its ability to handle internal, university-specific documents, and the availability of multiple models specializing in different fields (e.g., Sonnet-4.5 for programming and Gemini-Pro-3). Free access to such a powerful tool makes it a valuable asset for students, particularly as it outcompetes many free web services.

However, JI notes that some features are not yet fully fleshed out. Mathematical and scientific formula notation tends to break into raw text, and the agent occasionally stops working, stating the user has run out of tokens. While the agent adeptly formats code and scripts in markdown, rendering mathematical notation caused consistent issues. Although somewhat minor, JI warns that such inconsistencies will make users pivot toward more trusted and stable services like Gemini or ChatGPT.

JI also mentions hearing of POSTECH AI through a graduate student, noting that very few undergraduates are aware—much less utilizing—the service. The platform was definitely under-announced, and news of its availability has not reached a significant enough proportion of the student body. This lack of visibility is compounded by the fact that the shortcut tab to POSTECH AI is overtly minimalistic and easily overlooked in the PODIUM menu.

As the platform matures, it holds the potential to become an essential asset for every POSTECH student, possibly enhancing efficiency in both coursework and research. Perhaps with enough student body awareness and some minor optimizations before exiting the beta testing stage, it will become an essential toolkit for every POSTECH member.
