With the launch of POSTECH AI, POSTECH has officially entered the era of institution-wide generative artificial intelligence. POSTECH AI is a multi-large language model (LLM)-based AI service designed exclusively for members of the POSTECH community. The service was opened in beta on Dec. 24, 2025, and it has officially launched.

POSTECH AI aims to provide students, researchers, and faculty with a secure and customizable AI environment tailored to academic and research needs. Unlike general-purpose commercial AI tools, the platform is designed to support learning, research, service development, and entrepreneurial activities across the university ecosystem, while prioritizing data protection.

Through personalization options, users can configure AI agents optimized for tasks such as literature review, report writing, coding assistance, and project management. The service also automates repetitive academic and research-related tasks, helping users streamline workflows and focus on higher-level thinking. Beyond individual use, POSTECH AI provides AI Application Programming Interface (APIs) intended for research projects, service development, and startup activities. This enables technically proficient users to integrate POSTECH AI into their own applications or research pipelines, expanding the potential impact of generative AI across campus.

Security and privacy were highlighted as key considerations in the platform’s design. According to POSTECH, user inputs are not used for model retraining, and the system is structured to protect sensitive academic and personal data. This approach reflects growing concerns within academia regarding data leakage and the unintended reuse of research materials when using commercial AI services.

Early users have generally responded positively. Jeongwoo LEE (IME 19), who participated in the beta phase, said the platform exceeded expectations. He said, “The default POSTECH AI agent was good enough to replace the LLMs I had been using before.” However, he also pointed out limitations in the mobile environment and insufficient API documentation, which make the service difficult for beginners.

Other students emphasized the value of free access to cutting-edge AI models. Yeongyung SHIM (LIFE 24) noted that “being able to use the latest generative AI models for free is a major advantage,” while also pointing out that the inability to upload files in certain situations can be inconvenient. She highlighted that task-specific models for assignments and schedule planning offer more practical and detailed guidance than general-purpose AI tools.

From an academic support perspective, Hajin OH (MATH 24) expressed optimism about the service’s long-term impact. She found it notable that POSTECH developed its own AI specifically for tasks such as writing reports. She said, “With so many modules available, it seems convenient and helpful for school life. I think it will be useful not only for freshmen but even for current students who are already familiar with the university.”

As POSTECH AI has officially launched, expectations remain high that the platform will positively influence research productivity and learning efficiency across campus. At the same time, the university emphasizes the importance of responsible use, encouraging users to avoid entering personal or sensitive information and to utilize the service appropriately for academic and research purposes.
