The Postech Times interviewed Choi Ju-yeon (IME 24) and Ko Woo-hyuk (Mueunjae 25), the president-elect and vice president-elect of the 40th Dormitory Union.

What motivated you to run for the 40th Dormitory Union leadership?

[Choi Ju-yeon] Having served in the Dormitory Union, I have developed a deep affection for the organization. However, it was regrettable to see that the union was not developing as much as it could, despite its clear potential for improvement. I decided to run for president to address these aspects and to enhance resident welfare.

[Ko Woo-hyuk] The Dormitory Union was the first organization I joined as a freshman; however, over the course of the year, I felt some limitations. I believed it was an excellent organization, but it was not well-known. I ran for vice president to further develop and promote the Dormitory Union.

How do you feel about being elected, and what are your aspirations?

[Choi Ju-yeon] The process of being elected as the 40th Dormitory Union president was not easy. I am deeply grateful to the students who trusted and voted for us, even participating in the re-vote, as well as to the Dormitory Union members and Student Leadership Election Committee for their help. We will strive to repay this trust by fulfilling all our pledges and delivering good results to meet your expectations.

[Ko Woo-hyuk] As a newly elected leadership team, I will use my energy to work tirelessly on the ground to develop the organization and make it more widely known.

You pledged to strengthen communication with the Housing Services. How will you implement this?

[Ko Woo-hyuk] Current meetings with the Housing Services are irregular. We plan to hold them more frequently. Beyond in-person meetings, we will also expand communication via email and messenger. The details of these discussions will be shared on our website (https://www.postechdorm.com).

Given the growing number of international students, strengthening support and communication for them also seems necessary. Do you have any plans regarding this?

[Choi Ju-yeon] We are considering issues related to international residents. Currently, most of them reside in the Dormitory for International Cultural Exchange (DICE), but as more international students enter, they will reside in other dormitories as well. Currently, we are providing the English version of the Dormitory Toilet Reading, our monthly card news, in the DICE restrooms. We plan to expand this English version to other dormitories and add an English section to our website. Additionally, when recruiting new members, we are considering including students who can communicate smoothly with international residents. Since the Dormitory Union has limited experience interacting with international students, we hope for PBUD’s support, as PBUD interacts with them frequently.
