POSTECH hosted the “AI Campus Idea Contest” to transform its campus into a technology-friendly environment through students’ creative ideas. Under the slogan “Adding AI to POSTECH Campus,” the contest sought innovative proposals for utilizing AI technology across campus operations. The contest was open to all POSTECH undergraduate students, including those on leave of absence, who could participate individually or in teams of up to three members. Participants could propose AI-based ideas across various domains: classes, learning, research, extracurricular activities, campus life, academic administration, career services, facilities, safety, and environmental management. However, proposals had to introduce new features not currently provided by POSTECH, and applicants were required to verify implementation feasibility before submitting their proposals. The judging criteria focused on three key aspects: creativity, specificity, and usefulness, which were used to measure the practical value the ideas could bring to campus life.

The core value of this contest was to position students not merely as idea contributors but as key agents of campus operational improvement. The selected ideas have the potential to be implemented in actual campus systems, meaning students’ proposals could have the opportunity to directly translate into enhancements to their own learning, research, and living environments.

Beyond the opportunity to propose creative solutions, the contest offered students a chance to plan, document, and evaluate the feasibility of their ideas, fostering skills that extend far beyond simple creativity. This student-centered initiative is expected to act as a catalyst for a more innovative and technology-friendly campus, empowering students to move from passive participation to actively designing and improving their learning environment. In the long term, such experiences not only enhance students’ creativity and leadership skills but also contribute meaningfully to the development of a POSTECH AI-enabled smart campus.

The contest provides an avenue for students to witness their ideas turn into real, tangible improvements, impacting learning efficiency, campus safety, and daily convenience. If such participatory programs become regularized, POSTECH could establish a virtuous cycle in which student creativity continuously contributes to campus development. Students would cultivate a sense of ownership and leadership by directly shaping their campus experience, while the university benefits from building a field-friendly, AI-enabled smart campus.

The AI Campus Idea Contest may serve as a meaningful starting point that demonstrates the potential of student-led innovation at POSTECH. Through participation in various campus-wide contests and collaborative projects, students can actively contribute to shaping POSTECH into a university that merges technological innovation with participatory learning and remains responsive to the evolving needs of its community.
