POSTECH’s Freshmen Orientation (OT) is five days long and takes place inside the campus. During this period, freshmen go through various activities by which they get to know their colleagues and paths around the campus. They also meet with their Student Advisors (SA) and professors, key supporters for their journey ahead. This year’s OT was held from Feb. 9 to 13, well prepared by the Advisory Committee of the Freshmen Orientation.
The first day of OT was mostly about getting to know your classmates and safety education. Freshmen moved into their rooms in the Residential College (RC) and met their classmates in person for the first time. After dinner, they learned about the facilities of RC and evacuation protocols. The safety education consisted of preparing Postechians for natural disasters such as fire and earthquakes, and various situations that could happen while conducting experiments.
On the second day, the freshmen were greeted by President Seong Keun Kim. Various lectures followed, such as human rights education and an introduction to the POSTECH counseling center. After dinner, Ice Breaking event awaited the freshmen, with various missions that brought freshmen closer together as a team.
The third day prepared freshmen for their first steps as fellow Postechians, with various lectures on the system of Mueunjae School of Undergraduate Studies, library, and studies. Afterward, freshmen learned the school song and had time to explore student organizations such as the Student Union, Alimi, and The Postech Times. Freshmen learned the school cheer with Cheero and Bremen’s performance, participating in the school spirit. The night ended with diverse student club performances, from jazz performances by Blue Peanuts to musical plays by OPCA.
The next day, freshmen participated in the Mission Tour event, traveling nicks and nooks of the campus while solving missions spread throughout the campus. The classes competed as a team and brought classmates closer to becoming friends and colleagues that you could trust and rely on throughout the journey ahead. After a long day of walking up and down the campus grounds, freshmen had time to explore student clubs. A variety of choices were offered, such as sports, music, art, and studies.
The last day of OT started off with tours of POSCO, a demonstration on how to use the VR devices given to freshmen, and time with classmates who spent the last five day’s journey together. After a special lecture by POSTECH alumni, the freshmen were invited to a special dinner celebrating their start as a Postechian. The OT ended with the award ceremony for the winning class of the Mission Tour and winners of the Maze.
On Feb. 14, the matriculation ceremony was held, and freshmen became true Postechians with a celebration from POSTECH and their families. Everyone came together to celebrate and hope only for the best for freshmen’s first step towards the beginning of their life at POSTECH.
