Have you ever wondered if you are a follower or a pioneer in your lifestyle? Followers are people who tend to go along with the crowd. They are comfortable following the traditions and norms of their culture or society. They may be risk-averse and prefer to stick with what is known and familiar rather than trying something new. They often adopt lifestyles that are common or popular. Pioneers, on the other hand, are more likely to explore new lifestyle choices. They are curious and adventurous, and they enjoy trying new things. They may be more open to different ideas and perspectives, and they are often willing to take risks to pursue their goals. They may adopt lifestyles that are less common or even unconventional. In this regard, maybe you ask, what are the benefits of being a pioneer? Indeed, when we embrace a pioneering spirit, we not only experience fulfillment in our own lives but also have the potential to positively impact the lives of those around us. In this respect, the next step is answering this question “How can we be a pioneer?”
In order to be a pioneer, we must change our attitude toward the world. In other words, we must shift our paradigm. Only changing our daily routines is not enough to be a pioneer. To clarify this concept, let me tell you a story: “A person who was feeling down sought the help of a psychologist at a clinic. The psychologist advised him that the only remedy was to look at the color green. So, the person painted all the surfaces in his home green. However, when he returned to the psychologist later, he complained that the treatment didn't work because he couldn't change the color of everything outside his home, such as the roads, cars, and buildings. The psychologist clarified that the person did not need to paint everything green, but rather only needed to wear green-tinted glasses”. This was an example of changing an attitude in contrast to changing a manner of life. Now the question, “what should we do to change our attitude?” is raised.
Firstly, read as many books as you can. By reading books, you can expand your knowledge base and broaden your perspective on life. You may prepare a list of all books you have ever read and write a one-line summary for each book. Secondly, travel as much as possible. Visiting different museums, natural environments, streets, libraries, markets, people, universities, cultural places, etc. can stimulate creativity and expose you to novel ideas and perspectives. You may mark visited places on your Google Maps account to have a good archive of places you have visited. Thirdly, reflect a lot about yourself, your life, and this world, particularly during your alone time. For instance, you can go to the roof during the night, while everyone is sleeping, and explore the sky from your heart! Like this: your heart, your home, street, city, province, country, continent, Earth, Solar System, Milky Way Galaxy, Local Group of Galaxies, Virgo Supercluster, Observable Universe… Fourthly, try to show your innovation in your life. One approach to achieving this is to prepare a notebook referred to as a "Treasures Notebook", where you can document your most precious memories, experiences, and significant insights. By doing so, you can gradually accumulate a valuable collection that may contribute to improving your creativity and innovation.
Overall, you cannot carry out any of them until you have control over your time, especially sleeping time, social media time, and the time spent hanging out with friends. Managing your time can help you to perform those methods so that you can change your attitude toward life resulting in being a pioneer in your lifestyle. However, remember that being a pioneer is not the primary goal. In fact, it is the first step to think about this fundamental question “Who I truly am?”
