On Oct. 20, POSTECH President Moo Hwan Kim signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Far Eastern Federal University. He attended a meeting of presidents of universities in the Asia-Pacific region to mark the 120th anniversary of the founding of Russia’s Far Eastern Federal University and conduct human, academic exchanges and joint research.
With the MOU signing, POSTECH announced its goal to further expand the exchange network in Russia’s the Far East, while contributing to boosting exchange and cooperation between Gyeongsangbuk-do, Pohang city, and Vladivostok. In particular, the two universities will actively cooperate in the field of research for the growth of Pohang City and Vladivostok into a smart city.
Gyeongsangbuk-do and Pohang City signed MOU for economic, social and cultural exchanges with Vladivostok in 2018, and the Pohang city is actively engaged in exchanges in various areas, including education.
“Based on the cooperation between Pohang City and Vladivostok, it is more meaningful for POSTECH and the Far Eastern Federal University, the two leading universities in the region, to engage in new exchanges,” President Kim said at a meeting of university presidents from Asia-Pacific regions, including China, Japan, and Vietnam. In addition, “I hope that the exchange of the two universities will serve as a solid foundation for the development of the Asia-Pacific region, as well as developing Pohang city and Vladivostok into smart cities” said President Kim. 
Meanwhile, the Far Eastern Federal University, which  is a  University of 23,000 students, opened in 1899 and is one of Russia’s major universities with majors such as natural science, engineering, medicine, humanities, and law.
