On April 23, POSTECH, along with Seoul National University, KAIST, and Chung-Ang University—had the honor of being chosen as ‘2018 SW StarLab.’ The purpose of SW StarLab is to push Korea’s software technology to become world-class by giving grants to several outstanding laboratories. Since the advent of this program, a total of 21 laboratories were selected.
This year, the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Promotion (IITP) selected POSTECH and KAIST to research Intelligent Software, Seoul National University to research Distributed Computing and algorithm, and Chung-Ang University to research UI/UX.
As for POSTECH, the Data Intelligence Lab run by Professor Yu Hwan-jo was chosen. Prof. Yu is a professor in Computer Science and Engineering department at POSTECH who received his Ph. D in computer science at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA and is currently teaching AI, Big Data, and Data Mining, at POSTECH.
The chosen laboratories will be receiving financial support that amount up to 300 million KRW over a period of eight years in the hopes of developing world-class results.
