Jung Ilsoo (EE Ph.D. candidate) sub-mitted a paper that was awarded 2nd place in Energy Con-version Congress and Expo (ECCE) 2013. This conference is a world-renowned expo in the field of electric power held in Colorado, U.S.A, hosted by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). His paper was written with Professor Nam Gwanghee (EE) and titled “Extended MTPA with Cross-Coupling Inductances for Electrically Excited Synchronous Motors Cross Coupling”. In his paper, he interprets the Cross Coupling Effect, which is not linear and occurs when the car is over-loaded, using electronic interpretation and simulations. He models the change of motor parameters by reflecting on the motor core overloading effectiveness. The fact that he won the prize is an issue in the society of electronic engineering since his case is very rare. Various universities that belong to IEEE don’t usually allow undergraduate students to be awarded. Papers are judged very stringently and authors are usually experts such as professors or professional researchers.
