Prof. Peter Fulde, Emeritus Director and Scientific Director of Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (MPI-PKS) had a lecture in POSCO International Center, on Sep. 21, 2016. This lecture was one of the lectures celebrating POSTECH’s 30th anniversary.
He gave a special lecture on “The Effect of Basic Science on the Korean Economy.” In the lecture, he stressed on importance of basic science, and even said many discoveries in physics area made development of technology, leading to economic growth. He also stressed on importance of many tries, which can even lead to several failures. It means scientific development comes from unexpected tries and failures.
He also referred POSTECH’s position and provided direction to its efforts. According to his comment, POSTECH is a main generator of new knowledge in Korea and increasing world-wide reputation. He also emphasized that POSTECH needs to foster innovators and inventors.
