Dr. Seung Woo Song of Division of Advanced Material Science, POSTECH, accounted for the ferroelectric polarization in GaFeO3 thin films through NPG Asia Materials which is published by Nature. Ferroelectric materials can maintain spontaneous electric polarization without an external electric field. Thus, based on their polarization switching with high activation energies, they have applications in various electric elements ranging from the electric initiator of a gas stove to F RAM (random access memory), where information does not vanish even without a power source. As the explanation for polarization switching in ferroelectric materials is indispensable for the research in ferroelectric materials, the enlightenment brought by Dr. Song is noteworthy.
