POSTECH’s soccer club, Kaiser, placed 3rd among 48 university teams competing in a national soccer tournament held in Yanggu. For this vigorous and grueling four day long tournament from May 21 through 24, two POSTECH teams named Kaiser, comprised of key players in the club, and Kaiser Jr., consisting of mainly young players, participated. Although the juniors did not pass the preliminary rounds, the senior team shined.

After gaining nine points for the qualifying rounds with three straight wins, Kaiser sailed to the semi-finals where they met the team Free Soccer from Kyungwoon University and lost by a narrow margin of 1-0.

Kaiser, through systematic coaching since 2003 and increased practice with well-equipped infrastructure including the recently constructed grass field stadium, made it to the quarterfinals in last year’s national tournament in Gangjin.

A French exchange student and member of Kaiser, Benkaid Hamza, who scored in the quarterfinal said, “We had chances and tried to do our best but the last game was not easy. It was unlucky but overall I think we also had a good team.”
