POSTECH is ranked 116th among universities in the world in 2015 and second among the world’s top 100 universities under 50 years old by Times Higher Education. This is a steep decline from 2014-2015 when POSTECH ranked 66th in the world.
As this assessment is an evaluation of universities, it is easy to observe the areas in which POSTECH is doing well and the areas that need improvement. The Times evaluation contains five sections: teaching, international outlook, industry income, research, and citations. The highest score of POSTECH is industry income, at 100. The only other category above 50 is citations, at 76.7. The 3 scores are under 50—teaching (49.1), research (47.1), and international outlook (33.7)—indicate the areas in which development is needed.
In the world university rankings, Seoul National University (SNU) and KAIST are also ranked lower than last. SNU is ranked 85th and KAIST 148th this year. Surprisingly, Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) ranks 153rd among the universities in the world. In the 100 Universities Under 50 rankings 2015, University of Lausanne is 1st and KAIST is ranked 3rd. International outlook is POSTECH’s weakest point in this ranking as well, at 36 points out of 100. In all other categories POSTECH received more than 50. POSTECH’s total score is 69.2. The University of Lausanne was awarded 72.7 points and KAIST 68.3. POSTECH must work hard to remain among the top universities.
