Gyeongbuk Pohang Handong University and POSTECH are making headlines by promoting integrated study for the first time in Korea. The integrated fields are environment, energy, technologies, and laws. As part of the specialization of local universities conducted by the Ministry of Education and National Research Foundation of Korea, Handong University and POSTECH have been selected as a team capable of cultivating the people with the knowledge and skills needed in maintainable energy sources. The universities are fostering those who comprehensively understand energy/environmental problems and promoting new businesses.
The characteristic of integrated education is that professors give students the practical problems suggested by local companies; education based on actual fields is the key. The two universities are offering scholarships annually for first rank students in the energy/environmental area. A university official involved in this program said, “We strongly believe that this project will achieve ‘Route 7 Miracle (refers to unifying eneryg industry throughout Gyeongbuk Eastern Sea realms)’, and contribute to Korean history positively.”
