Plants have pores that can be used for exchanging gaseous molecules and moisture essential for their survival. A POSTECH research team is receiving attention for creating a membrane that holds a shape and functionality similar to pores.
The research team, led by Professor Sang-joon Lee (ME), invented Somata-Inspired Membrane, which embodies plant pores that react to temperature, and published the results in the authoritative material engineering journal, Advanced Functional Materials, on July 22.
“We started the research based on the natural phenomenon of plants using pores for the path to evaporate moisture and accept energy. This technique can be used in the future for flux control valves and to adjust the flow of fluid in medical diagnostors  that reacts to a certain temperature,” said Prof. Lee.
