The inauguration ceremony of the new president, Doh-Yeon Kim, took place at the POSTECH Auditorium at 11 a.m. on Sep. 1. Many honorable guests, including the POSTECH Chairman Kwon Oh-joon, Pohang City Mayor Lee Kang-duk, SNU President SUNG Nak-in, and National Research Foundation of Korea President Chung Min Keun, attended the ceremony. After the opening remarks, those in attendance recited the pledge of allegiance. This was followed by an introduction of the president, and addresses by attendees.
In the inaugural address, President Doh-Yeon Kim claimed that POSTECH is to become a “flagship” university in Korea, breaking through the waves toward higher education and research. He emphasized the importance of the start-ups launched by our faculty and students, and the mutual growth of university and city. Lastly, he stated the three points that he will keep in mind while leading POSTECH: educating and fostering the next generation of talent, research, and transparency of administration.
A luncheon for the guests followed the ceremony, and there was special lunch at Jigok Community Center to celebrate the new president’s inauguration. The celebration concert will be held at 7: 30 p.m. on Sep. 11.
It was raining in the morning of the inauguration, but the rain let up just as the ceremony began. May the bright future of POSTECH with the new president be like the clear skies after the rain.
