Professors Doh Jun Sang (ME) and Lee Jin Woo (CE) developed a  new pregnancy diagnosis kit. Diagnosis of highly sensitive diseases requires much time and special instruments, making it difficult to do in an emergency. The principle of the pregnancy diagnosis kit overcomes the problem by applying the same principle as traditional pregnancy tests: when a certain molecular reacts with gold, two lines appear. The research team used the same principle with platinum molecules instead of gold.
These tests may be used to detect Norovirus infections, AIDS, cancer, etc. because it is twenty times more sensitive. This was presented on the cover of issue 9 of Advanced Healthcare Materials, an authoritative journal of biomaterials, published on Jun. 24.
