For the past few weeks, there have been many conflicts about President Kim’s reappointment. The decision was supposed to be made last month, but it was postponed as many faculty members strongly opposed his reappointment. An official meeting, opened to all Postechians including staffs and faculty members, was held in the POSCO International Center last October to clear up any misunderstandings that had been going on. This is the first official announcement since then.
The President Appointment Regulations state that a President Candidate Appointment Committee, formed from the board of directors, would assess the current president’s achievements and come to a decision 300 days before the end of his term. If necessary, the chairman has a power to nominate up to two non-faculty members as members of the President Candidate Appointment Committee.
Now that the 300th day has passed, the President Candidate Nomination Committee, formed of seven faculty members who are currently positioned as Assistant Professor or higher, is requested to recommend three to five candidates and to begin the nomination process.
In addition to the President Candidate Nomination Committee, the President Candidate Appointment Committee will be participating in the nomination process. President Kim is included as an official candidate for the next president of POSTECH.
