The Awards Ceremony for the 3rd Cultural Content Contest in Science and Technology, hosted by The Postech Times, was held at the Hogil Kim Memorial Hall on Oct. 24 from 4:30-6:30 P.M.
The Postech Times has been organizing the Cultural Content Contest in Science and Technology since 2012 to enhance Postechians’ creativity and imagination through diverse media. An official notice was given out in March to both undergraduates and graduates and Postechians were encouraged to participate in this contest until the final deadline, Sep. 12.
Participants were given three categories (Photo-story, Science Fiction and UCC ) to choose from for their projects and were allowed to use any means necessary to create a visual impact on the audiences; for instance, video clips, presentation slides, and documents were among the media used.
A total of 11 projects (five Photo-stories, two works of Science Fiction and four UCCs) were submitted and thoroughly judged by Professor Jin S. Lee (CiTE), Professor Woo Jung-Ah (HSS) and Professor Sang Joon Park (HSS), who is also the Professor Editor of The Postech Times. In Prof. Park’s speech, he mentioned how glad he was to see projects of increasing quality since the first contest in 2012. He further added that he was grateful to all those participants who have invested their precious time in working on their projects. He expressed his hope to see the Cultural Content Contest in Science and Technology flourish in the near future.
The grand prize was given to Lee Jaeyong (MATH 11) and 10 others for their UCC project on love and family. The runner-up prizes were delivered to Taesung Lee (CSE, M.S.-Ph.D. Integrated candidate), Ikjong Park (ME, M.S.-Ph.D. Integrated candidate) and Gil Hanseok (CE 10) and the participation prize went to Reza Haghighi Osgouei (CSE Ph.D.), Masoud Akbari (MSE M.S.-Ph.D. Integrated candidate), Chung Yu Sun (LIFE 12) and Hong Nhung Nguyen (LIFE M.S.-Ph.D. Integrated candidate). 500,000 KRW, 200,000 KRW and 100,000 KRW were rewarded for the grand, runner-up and participation prizes respectively.
“We decided to choose a topic on love and family as we noticed that the majority of Postechians, including ourselves, fail to keep in touch with their beloved families just because they happen to be studying in a relatively remote place like Pohang. We wanted to remind Postechians of the importance of family” said the grand-prize-winner, Lee Jaeyong.
The award-winning projects were exhibited at the cafeteria from Oct. 24-31.
