Recently, avian infl- uenza has occurred in Korea. Repetitive occu- rrence of it caused worries regarding naturalization. A POSTECH and NASA researcher team develo- ped a nanoscale 3D-mesh that can be used to diagnose the avian influenza.
Professor Lee Jeong Soo (EE), Kim Ki Hyun (EE Ph.D.) and a NASA researcher team applied a 3D-floating mesh structure to a nanoscale sensor that examines more precisely than the commonly used linear structure. Unlike the linear sensor, the 3D structure is less influenced by impurities and more sensitive. In spite of its merits, nanoscale wires often collapse and tend to aggregate because the height is longer than the length. By adopting a repetitive Y-constitution of a comb, the team improved the stability so that it now far greater than that of linear structure.
Through a hydrogen detection experiment, the possibility of application in bio-sensor of higher sensibility was confirmed. Prof Lee highlighted that this technology will be used not only in the medical field but also for precise measurements of elements in the environment and various foods.
