Pipettes are an important tool for laboratory work in medical science, life sciences, and chem- istry since they help transfer an exact amount of liquid. Last year, Professor Dongsung Kim (ME) and Dongwhi Choi (ME Ph.D. candidate) explained in Scientific Reports that dewdrops from pipette tips are naturally charged with electricity and the charge might skew the results of experiments that require them. Recently, they processed additional research and invented new pipette tips. They found out that when water comes into contact with a solid surface, the zeta-potential of the solid surface is positively correlated with electrical charges. Therefore, they coated the inside of pipette tips with graphene, a synthetic material that has low zeta-potential. This created new zeta-pipette tips. This was announced through Langmuir, and American Chemical Society (ACS) chose this article to be posted as “Today’s Article” in ACS Editors’ Choice. This research is expected to attract a lot of attention from academia.
