Alumnus Shines more Brightly as a World Scholar

POSTECH alumnus, Professor Young-Jun Son (University of Arizona), will be awarded the Fellow prize by the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE). Prof. Son has come to the forefront in academia after M.S. and Ph.D. course in Pennsylvania State University in four years. He became an assistant professor when he was only 26 and was promoted to a full professor in only 10 years. He became the first Korean to win the Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award in 2004.
American IIE is one of most prestigious institutions in the field of industrial engineering. It selects fellow members from experts who are more than 40 and have at least 10 years of experience. The selection is carried out by considering the level of academic contribution, qualification, and research achievement. Prof. Son is the fourth Korean to receive this honor since the institute was developed in 1950.
Prof. Son is active at education and research. The main topic of his research is integrated manufacturing between corporations and supply chain manage using computer stimulation. Meanwhile, the award ceremony will be held at American IIE annual general meeting in Montreal, Canada on Jun. 2.
