The effort of an American scientist to commemorate the death of a young Korean scientist in an International Conference moved the hearts of the crowd.
Professor Kwan Hyoung Kang (ME) matriculated POSTECH as one of the first ME students and completed his course at POSTECH for his master’s and doctor’s degree. At the age of 44, he has passed away on Oct. due to a brain tumor. Before he passed away, he had made several significant contributions to his field, such as manipulating liquid inside chips in a 3D fashion and creating a portable seawater desalination device.
After hearing the news of Prof. Kang, Prof. Hsueh-Chia Chang of University of Notre Dame decided to provide a commemorate session in the Advanced Microfluidics & Nanofluidics international conference, along with a few other scholars. The commemorate session was organized by Prof. Frieder Mugele (electrowetting) of University of Twente, Netherlands. For three days, starting from May 24, the conference was held at the University of Notre Dame.
