Dae-Eun Jeong (LIFE, ME M.S.- Ph.D. integrated), under the supervision of Professor Lee Seung- Jae (LIFE), and Oh, Dongyeop (POSTI Ph.D.), under the supervision of Professor Dong Soo Hwang (POSTI), received the National Junior Research Fellowship Award for the year 2013.
The National Junior Research Fellowship Award is organized by MEST and NRF with the theme of ‘developing crucial leaders of basic science.’ A total of 21 graduate students were awarded with 50~60 million KRW (per year) for a maximum of five years.
Dae-Eun Jeong received the award for his project “Regulation of lifespan by C. elegans sensory neurons.” His main purpose is to “elucidate molecular mechanisms by which perturbation of sensory neurons extends the lifespan of C. elegans.”Oh, Dongyeop’s research title was “Translating marine invertebrate biotools into advanced organic load-bearing materials.” The purpose of the project is to understand the chemistry and physics of light-weight/robust/organic marine biotools of marine invertebrates from the coastal waters of South Korea, develop an energy-efficient, robust, and light-weight organic composite by mimicking the marine biotools, and discover application fields for the composite.
