Presentation for Scitech Town Meeting Held

The 2nd of the “Scitech Town Meeting,” where anyone can suggest science and technology policy, was held on Oct. 17 in POSCO International Center. The purpose of this event was to encourage undergraduates and graduates to participate in the third “Scitech Town Meeting.” The members of Biological Research Information Center (BRIC), Science On (a webzine of Hankyoreh, which is a Korean newspaper), DEMOS (a corporation), and many scientists had prepared “Scitech Town Meeting.” The first meeting was held on Aug. 11.


Participants of the presentation were introduced to the format of the “Scitech Town Meeting” and then discussed policies of science and technology. Even though this discussion was hypothetical, participants had a heated discussion. The title of the debate was “How we can improve environment of research and ensure occupational stability.” Diverse opinions such as raising wages and protection of human rights in laboratory were discussed.
Kim Areum (LIFE M.S. Ph.D. integrated), who participated in the presentation, emphasized, “I am very amazed to know ‘Scitech Town Meeting’. In addition, I am glad that common people can change the world by taking an active part in this meeting.”
Meanwhile, the third “Scitech Town Meeting” was held at KAIST on Oct. 27. The final report resulting from three “Scitech Town Meeting” is scheduled to be delivered to presidential candidates.
