POSTECH Ranks First in Research Funds and Results

POSTECH was ranked at the top of the “Research Funds and Research Results” list, compiled by the Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MEST) and the Korean Council for University Education (KCUE). POSTECH professors used an average of 796 million KRW in research funds in 2011. This was about 562 million KRW more than the average amount used by professors of Seoul National University, which ranked second. In addition, each professor of POSTECH published an average of 1.39 papers in 2011.
POSTECH Professors  used about four times more research funds than professor of other universities such as SNU, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, Sogang University, Yonsei University, Korea Aerospace University, Sungkyunkwan University, Hanyang University, Koreatech, Korea University.
Thanks to Brain Korea 21 (BK21), a project of MEST to foster a world-class university by training top-level technical professionals, professors of POSTECH published the greatest number of papers, 1.39 papers per professor. Kwangwoon University (1.35 papers per professor) was second, followed by Hanyang University and Korea University (1.30 papers per professor).
An official of MEST emphasized, “In the past, money for the research came from universities themselves through tuition fees of students. However, education foundations are now supporting universities’ research funds. It is a very positive change.
