A fire broke out on Oct 11, at 4:30 A.M. on the laboratory 102 of Chemical Engineering laboratories building. The fire consumed laboratory 101 and 103 as well as 102 and was extinguished at 10:00 A.M. Fortunately, there was no casualties despite the fire.
According to the general affair and safety management, it was not easy to extinguish the fire because sodium that reacts violently to water had been prepared for heat exchanging experiment. Thanks to quick responses from guard who started to extinguish the fire and notified the fire station at an early stage, the flames were put under control without any further disaster occurring.
Youngsun Yang, the minister of the General Affair and Safety Management, emphasized, "We will make efforts to do restoration work quickly and intensify safety measures. Members of POSTECH bear in mind the importance of safety and participate in preventive activity."
