APGC, One Step towards Founding Spirit

An opening ceremony of Association of POSTECH’s Grown Companies (APGC) and POSTECH Holdings Co., Ltd was held at POSCO International Center on Jul.18.
Consisting of companies that POSTECH members established, APGC is comprised of 41 companies (by Aug. 2012) whose total sales reached 260 billion KRW in 2011. Also, with the attempts to establish APGC, POSTECH started POSTECH Holdings which aims to establish more than two subsidiary companies in a year, promote twenty subsidiary companies in 2020, and get more than five companies listed on the KOSDAQ.
In order for successful settlement of POSTECH Holdings and promotion of subsidiary companies, POSTECH Academy-Industry Foundation has constructed the achievement-spreading innovative system, and introduced a new academy-industry system for spreading leading technologies and realizing a pro-venture environment.
President Yongmin Kim mentioned “Although technology ventures hold high risks, they are effective in generating jobs and value-add businesses. It is the way to realize the founding spirit of POSTECH and the core strategy to support the national economy.” He added that through POS- TECH Holdings, POSTECH will make a full effort to cultivate entrepreneurship of university members, and produce worldwide venture capital.
Moreover, seven companies including pmgrow, Cyberdigm, FEMTOFAB, ahope, WaveM, and Adesso promised to donate 1% of stocks to the university in order to provide full support for the founding spirits of spreading research results to the public, and return to the university and the society. POSTECH will contribute to the startups and the growth of APGC as well as help these companies to contribute to society.
Currently, Professor Seunghwan Kim,   the director of the Academia-Industry Collaboration Foundation, was appointed as the CEO.
