Government Reaches Out to Scientists and Engineers at Work

The first “Pil Tong Talk (Need for Communication Talk) with Scientists and Engineers” under the topic of sharing concerns with the young scientists and engineers was held at the POSCO International Center on Aug. 3. Organized by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the talk shows are held around the country for scientists and engineers to communicate directly with Minister Ju-ho Lee.
Moderated by a KBS announcer Jeong-ah Yoo, the show included a panel of experts such as Minister Ju-ho Lee, President Seung Jong Lee (National Research Foundation of Korea), Professor Seunghwan Kim (POSTECH, Vice President for Research and Academia-Industry Relations), Prof. Youngshin Kwak (UNIST), and CEO Seokwoo Lee (Penta Security Systems).
The talk show had two main topics, which were stable research environment and job creation plan. It first began with the explanation by the minister about the government policy for science and technology, followed by questions from the audience. The audience was filled wih graduate students from POSTECH, UNIST, and DGIST, who asked keen questions and conveyed substantive problems.
Minister Lee said, “This was a great chance for me to find out about how the policies are actually affecting the young scientists and engineers in the field. We will consider the suggestions and embrace them as much as possible.”
The next Pil Tong Talk was held at GIST in Gwangju on Aug. 28, and the series will continue at other universities across the nation.
