Two POSTECH professors, Prof. Sung-Kee Chung and Prof. Ja Kang Ku both from the Department of Chemistry, were conferred with national recognition for their educational achievements.

Prof. Sung-Kee Chung was awarded with the Cheongjo Geunjung Medal, which is given to those who have distinctive achievements in service to society. Cheongjo stands for the color of the decoration on the medal and implies that it is supreme among Geunjung Medals.

Prof. Chung was recognized for his educational achievements from 1987, when he was brought to POSTECH, till 2011, when he retired. As a faculty member and the third president of POSTECH, he has contributed to the scholarly development of bio-organic and medical chemistry. Also, he has  educated 12 Ph.D. students and 29 master’s students who have since contributed to the nation.

Prof. Ku was selected as a Prime Minister Award recipient. Serving as a POSTECH professor for twenty years, he fostered numerous scientists and produced meaningful theses which contributed to the development of natural sciences.
