A retirement ceremony for Professor Sung-Kee Chung was held at 2:20 PM on Jan. 28. Prof. Chung has served as a full-time professor at POSTECH since its foundation. While he researched and taught rigorously during his stay, he held various positions such as Dean of Academic Affairs and President of POSTECH.
While he has shown leadership in the administrative ranks, he also has been active on the academic stage as well. He not only made tremendous contributions to biochemistry, but also raised and mentored a multitude of pupils.
On this honorable day for Prof. Chung, several of his pupils came to congratulate and commemorate their teacher’s retirement by giving a series of brief lectures on their research findings.
The fact that old pupils remembered their teacher’s retirement and came despite the long distance reflected how great of a teacher Prof. Chung has been. Also, he is truly an inspiring scholar for turning his own retirement into an educational opportunity. As though this was not enough, Prof. Chung donated 250 million KRW for the development of POSTECH. As a leader and a teacher, he has set a great example during his career.
