POSTECH MSE Students sweep awards at conferences

MSE graduate students of POSTECH are drawing the spotlight for winning  awards for their papers at conferences.

SH Joo, a Master’s degree candidate whose advisor is Professor HyeongSeop Kim, won two awards recently from two different conferences. In the dissertation competition hosted by the Korean Society for Technology of Plasticity, he won the excellence award in the poster division. His dissertation about increasing the productivity of Aluminum powder and carbon nanotubes through high-pressured torsion shape morphing drew a great deal of attention.

Joo was also recognized as an outstanding scientist who could contribute greatly in powder metallurgy by the Korean Powder Metallurgy Institute. For the recognition, he received the ChangSung Outstanding Individual Award given by the Korean Powder Metallurgy Institute and sponsored by the ChangSung Corporation.

Dr. Jun Ho Son, under Professor Jong-Lam Lee, received the Young Vacuum Scientist Award from the Korean Vacuum Society for discovering a method to enhance the brightness and lifespan of LED. His work was recognized for finding the source of the silver based electrode heating, and devising a silver metallization with Nickel/Silver multi-layer structure that increases stability.

A second year master’s degree candidate Joohyun Hwang received the Chairman of the Board of Directors Award in the Climate Change Thesis Contest sponsored by the Korean Energy Management Corporation. He submitted a dissertation on high efficiency LED installation in households and its possibility and profitability analysis.
