▲ International students poses at Mount Naeyeon

The International Student and Scholar Service (ISSS), recently started anew with its separate own office, hosts an event every month for official school exchange students, including both undergraduates and graduates, and exchange researchers from overseas. Two programs run separately: one for the undergraduate and graduate students, and the other for the researchers and faculty.

A total number of around 140 exchange students are maintained throughout the semester. To provide them unique cultural and social experiences, ISSS plans trips to nearby places. POSTECH almost completely funds the program, allowing the students to enjoy the benefits free of cost. POSTECH is the only institution to offer such opportunities to experience Korean culture for foreigners for free.

This month, they went hiking on Pohang’s Mount Naeyeon. While only half of the usual number participated in the program this month due to exams, the participants enjoyed the program more than ever.

Next month, the group is planning on visiting POSCO and PIRO, the Pohang Institute of Intelligent Robotics. Also in December, both programs host a big end of the year event, called the International Night.

Correction in the previous issue:

The article ISSS Begins Services for International Members was printed with faulty information. It was reported that POSTECH subsidizes the program, “allowing the students to enjoy the benefits free of cost.” However, that POSTECH funds the program, but it is not completely free of cost.
