▲ POSTECH and SK Telecom signed an agreement to establish the mobile campus

POSTECH signed a business agreement with SK Telecom on the 6th to establish the Mobile Campus.  POSTECH’s new, ambitious plan for the Mobile Campus grafts mobile technology onto education, administration, and general campus life.

Accordingly, POSTECH and SK Telecom will begin developing groupware, mobile infrastructure, and a wireless Internet environment. Eventually, the members of POSTECH will be able to carry out live learning and administrative tasks through the wireless internet network without limitations of space and time.

As part of the agreement, POSTECH and SK Telecom together will supply about 5,000 smart phones to the members of POSTECH. The smart phones will include various features such as a mobile administration service, groupware, and a mobile student ID for building access, an electronic billing function, and an identification recognition function. The establishment of the campus wireless Internet network, the most important factor that enables all of these functions, will be completed by the end of 2010.

POSTECH and SK Telecom signed the agreement as business partners for integrating cutting edge wireless communication technology to education. This bold move will lead the new trend of science and technology integrated in learning and become the first example for other institutions. Also, both partners seek future academic-industrial collaboration in mobile programs and other information technology development research.
