Reading has always been an integral part of my life since I picked up my first book as a toddler. The sensation of immersing myself into the flow of a story and indirectly experiencing things that I could never do in reality was something other mediums could not deliver with the same intensity. Books, essays, and newspapers were a window into the wider world, bringing me new insights and knowledge on a variety of subjects. These experiences changed and shaped me into who I am today, for better or worse. As a new reporter of The Postech Times, I have now gained the opportunity to inspire others just as I have been influenced my whole life.
I believe one of the biggest influences a newspaper can have on its readers is to allow them to think about current events that would have otherwise went unnoticed and reach their own conclusions. Imposing one’s opinion on others may be tempting, but I believe a reporter must show both sides of an argument regardless of one’s inclination. I will always keep this in mind while writing future articles and refrain from injecting personal bias to ensure the complete freedom of readers in forming their own opinions on a subject.
Joining The Postech Times, I hope to mature as a writer and a journalist. I hope to learn from my fellow and senior reporters, whether it be writing styles or journalism. My biggest wish is to strengthen my writing abilities which will allow me to relay information with greater efficiency. Flowery sentences and elegant expressions might not be my forte, but I will do my best to ensure that I write with conciseness and clearness.
There may be a hard road ahead of me, with school work, school clubs, and social activities all needing my attention, but I promise to prioritize my work here, ensuring that our readers always read the most interesting and recent news. I am thrilled to spend my upcoming years at The Postech Times, and hope to become a valued member of this press.
