“The 26th Synchrotron Radiation User’s Workshop” was held on Nov. 20 at the POSCO International Center by POSTECH Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL) to strengthen users’ research capabilities. The ultimate goal was to promote both the quantity and potential quality of research projects. Over 200 experts of synchrotron radiation within Korea as well as from overseas attended this conference. A total of 70 verbal and 90 poster presentations were scheduled.
Special sessions on “High pressure science” also took place. Prof. Bin Chen (Center for High Pressure Science & Technology Advanced Research), Prof. Changyong Park (Advanced Photon Source) and Prof. Hyunchae Cynn (Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory) were invited to speak about their areas of expertise.
Prof. Chen presented his recent research outcome on “Deformation of nanoparticles at high pressure”, which highlights that the elastic strain of a metallic particles changes according to their size. Prof. Shin introduced his research on material property analysis and dynamics at high pressure using strong radiation source, such as those from fourth-generation synchrotron radiation. Finally, Prof. Park briefed on various components of beam-line used in high-pressure researches of U.S. Advanced Photon Source (APS) Synchrotron Radiation as well as his recent research outcomes.
The 12th Science Award was given to Prof. Yongjae Lee (Dept. of Earth System Sciences, Yonsei Univ.) who published a cutting-edge article, issued in Nature Chemistry, regarding high-pressure studies on Zeolite. The Early Career Award was given to Prof. Wi Hyoung Lee (Dept. of Organic and Nano System Engineering, Konkuk Univ.).
