On Apr. 24, the Korea Mathemati- cal Society (KMS) held a three day meeting to evaluate research papers and awarded the Best Paper Award to Professor Donghoon Hyeon (MATH) at the meeting at Gangneung-Wonju National University. Prof. Hyeon received his doctoral degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has been a professor at Northern Illinois University and Marshall University.
In KMS, Prof. Hyeon’s research has been highly recognized. He uses geometric invariant to generate innovative moduli space and interprets the relation between them. He also published a paper “Log minimal model program for the moduli space of stable curves: The First Flip” in Annals of Mathematics in 2013. The study presents a way of researching the moduli space, which has birational structure in the point of view of Mori program, which has almost the same emaning with minimal model program that means as simple as possible.
