Pohang Institute of Intelligent Robotics (PIRO) concluded the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with four POSCO family facilities on Oct. 11. The facilities include POSCO, POSCO ICT, Research Institute of Industrial Science & Technology (RIST), and POSTECH. The memorandum was processed in order to develop industrial robots and apply them into the real situation at factories.

PIRO achieved opportunities to widen the robot market with technical services after having obtained a unique technique to make an aqua cleaning robot called PIRO-U Series from POSCO ICT. Moreover, it can help relieve POSCO’s worry of low efficiency of production caused by labors’ fatigue and uneasiness by inventing a variety of industrial robots.

The team, POSROBOT Research Project team, was created with a total of 12 people and the team will study robots that can be used in the steel industry. The robotics invented by it will be used in 3D areas and other places where the robots are needed, helping employees to work safely and increase productivity. Its latestprojecting tasks are wide appliances of aqua cleaning robots, appliances of energy providing robots to factories, and development of plumbing robot techniques. It is expected to open a new prospect on robotics research.
