President Yongmin Kim Wins William J. Morlock Award

The new POSTECH president, Dr. Yong-min Kim was awarded the William J. Morlock Award, given by IEEE (Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engin-eers) Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS). The institute selected him due to his brilliant experiment in the medical imaging area.

President Kim conducted his experiment in medical imaging process and computer structure after he was employed as a professor in Washington University in 1982. Moreover, he helped bring the university to the position of fifth in the world for university of field of biomedical engineering. Additionally, he showed his prominent capability in the biomedical area as a head of the Department of Bioengineering.  

The award, created in 1960 by EMBS, applauds a person who fostered promoting scholarship in medical engineering and applied bio-medicine into electronic techniques. It is only given once every two years. The ceremony to award the prize was held at the 33th EMBS international conference in Boston, U.S. on Aug. 30.
