Once the student president, and now an outstanding M.S publisher

The Postechian has gained attention for her performance not only in leadership but research.

Former student president Mi-Ri Choi and Prof. Tae-Woo Lee of the Department of Material Science and Engineering developed a new technology which can improve the lives of Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLED) and Organic Solar Cell, by using self-doped conducting polymer compositions.

The achievement, titled ‘Soluble Self-Doped Conducting Polymer Compositions with Tunable Work Function as Hole Injection/Extraction Layers in Organic Optoelectronics’, was published in Angewantde Chemie online on May 24.

Once the 22nd President of the Student Union in 2008, she has continued her efforts in research from her undergraduate years. The current outcome is based on her research presented in the International Conference on Molecular Electronics and Devices held in the last year.

Not only OLED, Organic Solar Cells also have a lot of potential for application. It is expected to be used in migratory devices which self-generate electricity, because it is cheap and flexible. Displaybank Co., Ltd estimated the market of Organic Solar Cells would be worth of 335 million USD worldwide in 2016.

Prof. Tae-Woo Lee, Choi’s advisor, noted “The outcome enhances lives and efficiency of organic electronic devices, and is expected to be applied in the field of informative, energy devices. Moreover, it is very meaningful in that M.S student accomplished such success.”
