Professor Han Woong Yeom of the Department of Physics was selected as Outstanding Referee of the American Physical Society (APS), an honor given to physicists who highly contribute to development of their field. In APS, to which many prominent physicists belong, it is exceptional for upcoming professors to be selected as Outstanding Referees.

Prof. Yeom, who got his Ph.D at Tohoku University of Japan, has been a pioneer in the field of nanoscale surface physics, and has been especially acknowledged for his development of one-dimensional metal nanowire. Since 1996, he published nearly 130 articles in international journals recording 2,400 citation numbers, and received attention for his development of doping skills for minimized size nanowire.

APS has granted the title of Outstanding Referee to nearly 150 members among the 45,000 members of its academic judging panel since 2008. Five other Korean physicists have been selected; Young Kuk, Jisoon Lhm, and Choonkyo Lee of Seoul National University, and Keejoo Chang and Kimyeong Lee of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.
